^ that's me - I's not a happy bunny.....
I have searched for infor re avatars and seen that you have a virtual shop here wanting 50 points to enable me to purchase one! That's blimmin daylight robbery! *stamps feet* I wanna avatar.... and I think 50 posts is harsh considering the forum is quite quiet!......
Seriously though, I'm unable to add to the sigs and av thread as for some reason it's been locked, Admin you said in there you'd create a poll so that members could give their opinion but I can't find it
Avatars give a feeling of belonging to a forum imho..... a sense of individuality... without one.... I'm feeling quite distanced..... (Am I sounding dramatic enough here?).....
It's kinda like forcing members to post just to be a part of the forum.... I'm not really understanding why you would want to distance newbies in this way?.... maybe give the first for free and then charge for any further changes yes, I can understand that... but the avatar, the sig, the member categories... all seem quite severe... as a newbie, I very much feel on the outside looking in.... like I have to prove myself worthy of membership.....
Its very quiet on here and I've wondered if you guys are posting away in the 'real' members forum LOL.....
Just a little feedback on how I'm feeling..... Not a slight on the forum... I like it!.... I just don't like the rules you apply to newbs.

sorry to disagree but i know loads of forums that dont allow avs and sigs until members reach a certain post count, dont think its to put new members off but to get them more activly posting, sure the admin will do something for you.
I can understand your thinking regarding the avs, etc. Allow me to explain.
The sigs and avs thread is locked as it's no longer valid, I should have removed the link from the Introductions forum, but forgot, sorry about that. I have now removed that.
The updated sigs and avs notice can be found here. This states that only 10 posts are required for this.
The reason for the blocking certain forums is because it's is an adult only area, anyone can gain permission if they want, but I just don't want the easily offended entering and then slating us later for reading something they don't approve of, this way they enter because they asked for permission. Having a Member's Only area also cuts down on the number of spammers and the like running freely and posting everywhere, but it's a no win situation, if you block them great but then normal new members are restricted because of it, if you let them run free, they spam all over the place and ruin it for the rest of us. Rock in a hard place spings to mind.
Don't feel like an outsider, post away and spread the word to get us more members, we have a good few regular members who post often, we just haven't saw them for a while, but the always come back.
If there is something else you aren't sure about, let us know and we will sort it out, that's the way it should be, feel free to reply here with any forums you cannot access and I will get that sorted.

Ummmm..... did you read my post
I would never post just to gain an avatar.... IMO forcing members to post to gain a simple avatar just encourages them to post cr*p and no-one wants that on their forum do they

You might want to revise that one too
I did see that post but you said in there -

We're well into August hunny, when I read it, I presumed the offer was closed LOL.

Fair enough... I can understand that

Ummm.... just one thing I can see..... I can't access member profiles or the member list, I'm a nosey sod and like to get to know a little of the peeps I'm chatting with... when I click on the member links at the bottom of the forum it says -
Quote:
You are not authorised to view the member list or profiles.
Just to add - Many thanks for all your patience with me Wills and the time you've taken so far to help me, it is appreciated

its not just posting to gain an avatar, its posting to help a forum grow and the get something back in return, you do something for the forum and you get something back, sounds fair to me.

We'll just have to agree to disagree hun.... I moderate a forum that offers novelty things for points, but those do not include the simple things such as an avatar or sig, which help you feel at home on a forum and give you your own identity....when a member 'chooses' to post on a forum, yes they help to make that forum grow, therefore the forum gains from the poster and in turn the poster gains from the use of the free forum, that sounds fair to me... this is just my opinion though as I've said in previous posts, I'm not wanting to debate about this.... I've no problem with how anyone runs their own forum... If I choose to post, it's because I want to, not for the the want of something and I 'choose' to post on the 80's forum

Right guys, IMO I agree with you both we were getting a lot of spammers so decided to restrict access to certain sites, and they would also be monitored for the first couple of posts as we had to delete or block posts made by these idiots as most of the stuff was harsh (know a member who might have enjoyed some of it though ) anyhoo, know this affects new members but just thought if they were serious about wanting to be a member they wouldn't mind, if like me they could post 50 in less than 60 mins
so thats it, discussion over

That's not very nice is it
Thank you for your explanation Janet.... I clearly said numerous times I was just voicing my feelings, not putting down the forum or the way it is run at all... I thought this was the section of the forum to do so and to discuss those concerns if we wished to... I guess I got that wrong.... 50 posts is difficult when there is no-one around to talk to hun.... I'm sure you are aware of that - My apologies if I've caused any upset in voicing my opinion and giving some feedback... I'll shut up now
