A host of unknown actors have signed up for MGM's remake of Fame, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The studio and director Kevin Tancharoen have cast Kristy Flores, Paul Iacono, Paul McGill, Naturi Naughton, Kay Panabaker, Kherington Payne, Collins Pennie, Walter Perez and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle in the new version of Alan Parker's 1980 musical.

Heroes and Sarah Connor Chronicles star Thomas Dekker will lead the ensemble.

The movie will follow the fortunes of a group of ambitious young performers and their teachers at the prestigious High School for the Performing Arts in New York.

Fame begins production in February in New York and Los Angeles, with a targeted release date of September 25, 2009.
